University of Jyväskylä Language Campus
The JYU Language Campus is a cluster of experts in languages and communication.
Language Campus is a joint effort between the Centre for Multilingual Academic Communication, the Department of Language and Communication Studies, the Centre for Applied Language Studies, the language pedagogy section at the Department of Teacher Education, the Teacher training school, and the Finnish Institute for Educational Research at the University of Jyväskylä. Together we form the Language Campus, which is a nationally and internationally unique knowledge cluster that aims at developing and renewing language education, language teaching and language policies through cutting-edge, multi-angled research on language and its use.
We at the Language Campus investigate language and its use in different contexts in a multilingual society. Our research can be described as applied linguistics. We also develop language education that is based on research, and builds on a modern view of language proficiency and skills, language expertise, and cultural competence. The Language Campus Strategy 2022-2027 stresses four objectives: 1. Promoting a sense of community at the language campus, 2. Equitable and ethically sound teaching, research and community work, 3. Re-conceptualising multilingualism and 4. Developing stakeholder connections and societal impact.
The Language Campus organises several annual ‘linguisteresting’ events. The ‘Activities’ section on this page gives you an overview on what the Language Campus does, portrays our latest publications, as well as recaps some of our past events. The ‘Blog’ offers you texts on various topics written by language campus people. More information about the units forming the Language Campus can be found under ‘Contact information’.

Declaration of the JYU Language Campus: Saving on mother tongue and A2 language teaching is short-sighted decision making
