24.11. Dynamic Korea: from Land of Morning Calm to Morning Glory

A lecture about Korea and Korean culture will be held for the first time at the University of Jyväskylä this coming 24th November. The evening will include a fun and interactive program featuring various demonstrations.

In recent years, Korea has become an international brand name.

Hyundai and Kia cars, Samsung and LG smart phones, TVs, computers, and household appliances are sold in many countries around the world including Finland.

Movies, TV dramas and K-Pop Culture have also gained international attention.

Yet, there are things about this Land of Morning Calm that are still fascinating and mysterious and inspiring!

The following are the kinds of questions people often ask:

What are the main differences between Korea, Japan and China?

Is South Korea a dangerous place to live because of North Korea?

Do Koreans eat dogs, octopus and silkworm?

What is a Korean sauna like?

What is Gangnam, in Psy’s famous hit-song, Gangnam Style?

Does every Korean man have to learn Taekwondo?

Is cosmetic surgery so popular among Korean women?

Are Koreans workaholics?

In Korea, can I really order a pizza at a remote island in the middle of night?

You can learn a lot about Korea on top of the answers of all those questions above.

You will also meet Korean people living in Jyväskylä. A few of them will be wearing traditional costume. It is open to EVERYONE inside and outside of the university. Please, invite your friends, family and colleagues as well.
